Introduction to Meditation
Because of a number of requests, I am beginning a new online program called the “Introduction to Meditation”. Make no mistake, while it is called an ‘Introduction’, this is not a simplistic course. My first sentence of the course will probably be one that you have never heard before, and may not fully understand for some time. I will define meditation and the basic principles behind meditation, and I will teach you how to use them in your active daily life. Additionally, I will use guided meditations to explore the wide range of meditations available to you and talk about how to apply them.
We will use receptive, active, and moving meditations, as well as use various modalities as focal points for meditation. The principles taught in this class are applicable to virtually any meditation you currently practice.
There is a lot of confusion about what constitutes meditation, how to do it, how to know you are doing it “right”, and how to overcome the “hindrances” to meditation. While this is an introductory program, it will be extensive with 8 sessions of up to 1½ hours each. Every meditation will be quite distinct. The class will meet twice a week and last about a month. There will be no review sessions though we will take questions in every class. The series will create a solid foundation for all future spiritual work.
